Citizens Against Market Place Apartment/Condo Development (CAMPAD)

The owner of The Market Place has presented a second plan to the city to demolish existing structures at Market Place (including Nob Hill Foods and other small businesses) and construct a 40-unit condominium complex. This does not fit in our neighborhood and is simply out of place in a mixed-use retail space that provides essential services to our community.  Now that Nob Hill has closed (on March 15, 2022), we are determined to get a full-service grocery store back in our community.

Message to Our Supporters

We would like to thank all of our supporters for your efforts in preventing the inappropriate 284-unit, 5-story apartment building at The Market Place.  Your Actions Made a Difference!  We appreciate your continuous engagement and community support voicing your thoughts and concerns with maintaining and saving the infrastructure of  the Market Place Shopping Center including saving Nob Hill Foods and the need to have a grocery store within the current proximity.

A big thank you to all of you for your expeditious Calls to Action distributing over 11,000 flyers and sending over 1,000 emails and letters to our city officials opposing the apartment complex.
The citizens of San Ramon should be very satisfied  that you prevented the 284-unit, 5-story apartment building from being constructed. There are nearly 700 members of the CAMPAD Nextdoor Group and more than 300 of you have provided your contact information so we can keep you informed. More than 2,200 of you have visited our Website for a total of over 6,000 visits!

CAMPAD was disappointed to hear the news that Raley's/Nob Hill made the decision to close their San Ramon store.  We understand that the decision was based on seven years of declining sales (with the exception of 2020 pandemic related sales); a shopping center that has not been properly maintained, is losing existing businesses and is not attracting new businesses resulting in reduced foot traffic; and the uncertainty surrounding the future development plans of the property owner.

Raley's/Nob Hill continues to state that they are committed to being in San Ramon and are actively looking for an alternate site.  To that end they recently met with Mayor Hudson and also had an exploratory meeting with Sunset Development.  Our understanding is that Raley's and Sunset have agreed to continue discussions.

WE ARE NOT DONE!  We are committed to continuing our efforts to prevent
a housing development that does not fit in with a cohesive plan for the overall Market Place and does not provide for a full service grocery store at that location.  The Responsible Growth San Ramon website and committee will continue to provide information and updates, gather community support, and make our concerns known to the City in an organized cohesive manner.  Your Voice Matters!
